It is not known when Falconry in Pembrokeshire started, but it is known that the Romans learnt about it from the Averni, a Celtic tribe based in the Auvergne, and so it seems likely to have been practised here for well over one thousand five hundred years.
Walking with Hawks can arrange falconry events anywhere in Pembrokeshire, even in your back garden if you live locally or are renting a holiday home for a few days. All we need is enough space to park two vehicles and an open aspect so you can see the birds of prey flying and they can see and hear their handlers
If you don't have anywhere for us to come to we can suggest venues that we have used before and where the owners are happy to allow us to give a falconry and hawking demonstration.
Take a walk through the stunning Pembrokeshire countryside and become a
falconer for an hour or so flying Harris Hawks to your gloved fist
while they follow gracefully through the trees. This is a wonderful
chance to experience the unique bond and trust between man and Hawk and
get a taste for the sport of kings.
We can also visit schools, bringing drama to the teaching of history, geography or environmental studies or just showing the birds and answering questions.
